Julie + Jon | Engagement

We met up with Abby and Dane in Omaha's Old Market. After dinner and great conversation, engagement pictures began with a treasure hunt through a thrift store. We set Abby and Dane on a quest to find the perfect item for each other. The item had to represent their love in some unique way. It was hilarious and heart-felt as they presented each other with the items. They really know one another through and through.
After the scavenger hunt, we took engagement pictures on the side streets of the Old Market. The sun was setting and its golden light made the evening perfect. Abby and Dane love each other so much that it is a joy to be around them. We can't wait for their wedding this fall.
Last December we first met Carley and Dakota at her brother's wedding. They immediately charmed us with their love for each other. I distinctly remember saying to Abbie that it would be amazing to take their photographs. We knew that we all would be a perfect fit. When Carley contacted us, we were ecstatic. It is such a honor for us to be a part of their family again.
Earlier this summer we traveled to Ames, Iowa to take Carley and Dakota's engagement photographs. Ames and Iowa State University are dear to their hearts. We began the evening at ISU's campus. The tall historic trees cast long shadows across the immaculate campus. Carley was able to show us ISU's hidden nooks and treasured spots. It was ideal. After we explored campus we adventured downtown to the city's bandshell and back alleyways. It couldn't have been a better time.
Carley and Dakota made it so wonderful. Carley is one of the most thoughtful and sweetest people we have ever met. She thinks of everything and everyone before herself. Dakota is a brilliant guy who makes everyone feel welcome. His kind nature just makes you feel like you are at home. He also has that effect upon Carley. She is so relaxed and comfortable around him. They are both outstanding people. The time in Ames was so memorable and we can't wait for their wedding later this summer.
We had a hunch, a strong hunch. Everytime on our way home from Omaha we would drive past Elkhorn wondering what hidden treasures could be found in this quiet and quaint town. We really like to find new and exciting locations for each couple that we photograph. After much thought and consideration about Catie and Ben, we decided to give Elkhorn a try, and it didn't disappoint us.
We met up with Catie and Ben at the Scooters and from there we went to our first location. They had dressed perfectly for what we had envisioned. The old rustic barn outside of downtown, the field of goldenrods in the evening light, and a historic brick street provided the ideal backdrops for our experience. Immediately when the shutter was first released, there was magic. Ben has this incredible way of making Catie smile so that their personalities become larger than life. She is a wonderful person with a beautiful heart and he can see the joy of life in all things. Together they make a perfect couple. Michelangelo once said that it was his job to set free his scupltures from their raw blocks of marble. It was our task to set Catie and Ben free in the frame of cameras. We can't wait for their wedding day this fall.
It was the beginning of summer when we met up with Megan and Thad in Lincoln for their engagement session. The day was full of splendor and life. Megan and Thad's love for music, books, and baseball flowed through our conversations and photographs like a cool breeze. Their magnanimous personalities were contagious. We had such an amazing time with both of them, in Lincoln, at the university's main campus. The University of Nebraska is a place that all of us love. It has charmed us with hidden treasures.
We loved the story of how Thad proposed to Megan, their taste of music, and thier willingness to go on an photography adventure with us! Our time with Megan and Thad was full of laughter and their fun-loving nature. We are awaiting their marriage later this summer and we hope that the Cubs win a few games for their sake!
When thinking about Paul and Jennifer we smile. We think of the outdoors, friendship and graciousness. We think of their thoughtfullness in all things. Paul and Jennifer are such great people.
Hidden away in the secret nooks of Boy's Town and on a rustic bridge along the West Papio trail we had the great pleasure of taking Jennifer and Paul's engagement pictures. We began at Boy's Town, and then moved to the rustic bridge. Both places perfectly highlighted Jennifer and Paul.
We made a lasting connection with them during this engagement session. Jennifer is the sweetest person that you could ever meet. She is so personable and kind. Paul is humorous and always brings a smile. Our conversations with Paul and Jennifer drifted from their wedding preparations to their interests and life itself. I particularly loved receiving advice about running from Paul. Hopefully it will help in preparing for a 5K this fall! We loved spending time with them and we anticipate their wedding!
